Inkscape Parrot Project

Before we get started, here is the video on how to make the parrot.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s-kPg4vYKfk

What did I learn while making this?

  • I learned to use the bezier pen.
  • I learned to change the shape of the line by clicking the nodes and moving them around.
  • I learned to remove outlines from the shape you made.

What did I do and change?

  • I changed the colors for the feathers.
  • I used the bezier pen without the tutorial once I got the hang of it.

I enjoyed making this because I can use the skills I learned for any upcoming Inkscape projects.

Down below is an image of the parrot I made.

Science: Plant Cells vs. Animal Cells

Recently, I learned about cells in my science class. So today, I’m going to talk about plant cells and animal cells.

What’s the difference?

Well, plant cells are cells inside of plants such as trees, flowers, or bushes. Animal cells are cells inside of bodies of people like us, or animal bodies.

What do both cells have?

Let’s start at the top. Both plant and animal cells have a nucleus and a nucleolus. A nucleus is the brain of the cell and controls all the activities. The inside of the nucleus is the nucleolus and it contains all the chromosomes. They both also have a cell membrane. A cell membrane acts as a security guard, and it controls what goes into the cell, and also what goes out of the cell. Another thing they both have is mitochondria. The very most important role of mitochondria is to produce the energy currency of the cell. How about vacuoles? These two cells both have vacuoles, however, one is larger than the other. The plant cell vacuole is much larger. Inside plant cells, vacuoles maintain the water balance. But in animal cells, vacuoles help take away waste products. One last thing, both cells have cytoplasm, which is the jellylike structure that is mainly composed of water, salts, and proteins. Cytoplasm provides a platform upon which other organelles can work within the cell.

Inside an Animal Cell

Inside an animal cell, there are some things that plant cells don’t have. Such as a lissome. A lissome helps the cell digest things like dead organelles, acids, proteins, and some other unwanted materials. They then break up the bigger molecules into tiny molecules and then those smaller molecules can be reused to build some other bigger molecules! Another thing that a plant cell doesn’t have is a centrosome (or a pair of centrioles). The function of the centrosome is to organize the microtubules in the cell. That controls the cell shape and cell division.

Inside a Plant Cell

Inside of a plant cell, there are some things that animal cells don’t have. One of them is a cell wall. A cell wall gives the plant its shape. It also gives protection to the plant. Another item that animal cells don’t have is chloroplast. Chloroplast takes the energy from the sunlight and converts it into sugar/food for the plant.

Defining Computer Terms

  1. Backup. A backup is a copy of data from computers that are taken and stored somewhere else. It is stored elsewhere because it can be used to restore the original data after a data loss event.

2) Landscape. A landscape is a horizontal orientation to display wide-screen content, such as text or an image.

3) Orientation. Orientation is a term to describe an overall layout of any item related to other items.

4) Portrait. A portrait is an orientation of the page that prints the image or text not horizontally, but vertically.

5) Save As vs. Save. Save As helps store already existing files or new files to a new location with either a new name or the same name. Save helps update the most recent saved files with the most recent content.

The Invention of Computer Programming Language

Before we get started, here is a video:

Making a language that both humans and computers could understand was a tough job. In the earlier days, computer programs were written in lengthy instructions using binary code. Binary codes are a combination of zeros and ones.

Grace Hopper was an American computer scientist and United States Navy officer. When Grace was 7 years old, she took apart all of the alarm clocks in her house to figure out how they worked. She liked math so she went ahead and studied math.

In the earlier days, computer programs were written in lengthy instructions using binary code. Binary codes are a combination of zeros and ones.

The first time someone made the computer understand humans was when Grace Hopper grouped call numbers on a record. Then, she wrote down a set of call numbers using English, and then the computer would find them from the records. Computers would work it out by decoding the English words.

Some people believe that Grace Hopper also invented the term “debug” and “bug”. She was working and found a dead moth inside the computer. This wasn’t a new term though. Thomas Edison also used this term to describe the technical difficulties during his new inventions.

How the INTERNET works

Watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UXsomnDkntI

  • The internet is basically a wire. A lot of servers are connected to this wire like Google. Google is connected to the internet and so is Instagram, and Facebook, Twitter, and so much more.
  • When we send a message, the message is broken down into little pieces. This is because our message is very big, and it is hard for the internet to carry around the message. If you sent a picture along with the message, the picture would also be split up into little, tiny pieces.
  • Each computer has an IP address. An IP address is 4 segments of a 3 digit number. Systems are recognized by other systems connected through the Internet Protocol. The IP address allows them to do that.

Down below is are some images/pictures of how the internet works.
